This book includes abstracts of all instruments recorded in the old series volumes 1-4, Monongalia County clerk's series of deedbooks: deeds, wills, mortgages, deeds of trust, powers of attorney, manumissions of slaves, contracts, and miscellaneous records--many of them not included in the general index to deeds at the courthouse. Additionally the author has identified more than 200 pre-1797 deeds, most of which are not now of record in Monongalia, but whose existence is confirmed by tax books.
