The history of the Myricks United Methodist Church, located in Berkley, Massachusetts, is a topic not only of interest to the author, but of personal significance. Mrs. Terry's grandmother was a lifelong member of the church and "served as Church Historian for many years." It was through this relationship that she first became interested in the subject. Upon realization that there was no written history of the church, she began this work to present a source of information on the "church and community." In the process of compiling this information, she accessed a number of sources, including the church records and articles, newspaper articles, earlier books and a local historical society. The Myricks United Methodist Church was established in the middle of the 19th century, and therefore this book covers about 150 years of the church and its members. The book begins with a chapter giving a brief history of the church as it was established in Myricks. Throughout the remainder of thebook, Mrs. Terry paints a well-rounded picture of its history through the examination of the various aspects and activities of which the church consists. Among the topics discussed are the physical structure, in its various stages;the membership, including complete lists from a number of years;the ministers;the worship service and the roles of individuals therein;and Bible school. Complementing the text are more than thirty-five illustrations of the church and church members and a surname index. Church histories, such as this one, provide a valuable view of the communities in which they exist and the individuals who give them life. This insightful history has been written with an understanding of the Myricks United Methodist Church, its members are and the influences that have helped shape them.
